Challenges in global cities

During the Stockholm Security Conference 2017, Maria Rankka, CEO of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce joined a panel discussion along with the mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb and Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, former commissioner of Metropolitan Police London, to talk about security and challenges in global cities.

Stockholm and Sweden has been a trading country since the era of the Vikings. The role of trade and investments have contributed in creating a more peaceful world, but there is a worrying development with more protectionism undercurrents in the world. From an economic perspective that development also has security implications.

Ms. Rankka pointed out three threats that businesses face and are worried about.

Cyber security, social exclusion and insufficient integration of immigrants, and how small businesses in some segregated areas in the suburbs of Stockholm are affected by crime.
