Invest in infrastructure

In the capital region, people commute on average more than six working weeks each year. This means that people spend more time commuting than vacationing. Investment in infrastructure has been insufficient for years; simultaneously the population has grown rapidly. Therefore, infrastructure issues are high up on the agenda of the Chamber’s work.

More specifically, the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce is working to improve regional access to transportation for people and goods. In recent years, the Chamber has mainly promoted the construction of the Stockholm Bypass, the Northern Link and an Eastern road link. Also, the Chamber has been a strong driving force for the expansion of the Metro system, primarily to Nacka, Hagastaden and Taby.

Increased and expanded commuting facilities are important to the development of the region. Therefore, the Chamber strongly promotes the proposal of four railway tracks between Stockholm and Uppsala in order to provide even more extensive train services.

Although aviation and shipping are important infrastructure investments, the Chamber has primarily focused on development opportunities for Arlanda Airport. However, the Chamber has been deeply involved in saving regional ports and quay locations in order to facilitate the development of shipping.
