Stockholm’s Export Up 23 billion SEK From Previous Year

Exports are on the rise in all the counties of Sweden, but for Stockholm, the value in export rose with almost 23 billion SEK between 2016 to 2017.

– It is of course positive that all counties are heading forward. It creates the foundation for jobs and growth. The current criticism against free trade and the on-going discussions on tariffs are nevertheless worrisome, says Andreas Hatzigeorgiou, Chief economist at the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.

In absolute terms, the increase of the large city regions was topped by Stockholm, 23 billion SEK, and Västra Götaland, 32 billion, in export between 2016 and 2017.

However, the largest percentage increase was recorded in Blekinge, Norrbotten and Örebro.

– Exports are of major importance for growth and jobs, especially if interest rates increase and the dependency of domestic consumption lessens to support growth. In such a case, exports become even more important, says Andreas Hatzigeorgiou.

The smallest percentage increase of exports are recorded in Kalmar, Uppsala, Östergötland and Värmland.

– Certainly, that exports increase in all counties are positive, at the same time, we see considerable differences between the counties that are developing rapidly, and those developing slowly. We have before seen large regional differences in economic growth and it is somewhat troublesome for the country’s opportunity to grow simultaneously, says Andreas Hatzigeorgiou.
